Family Support Specialist

Our Impact

A single mother was referred to Help Me Grow Alaska by a primary care provider to connect her child to a play therapist who would be able to appear in court regarding a custody settlement. The Family Support Specialist worked alongside the mother for two months until a therapist was located who could meet these needs and complete an assessment. The Family Support Specialist additionally assisted the mother in getting connected to a counselor to support her during this challenging time.

Help Me Grow Alaska in Action

A young man in his early 20s contacted Help Me Grow Alaska for support identifying a new medical provider and service providers for his special needs now that he was a legal adult. Family Support Specialists worked with him to not only help identify providers to meet his needs but also to help him navigate applying for insurance as an independent adult. The young man left HMG-AK with direction and confidence as he moved forward into young adulthood.

We are here to help!

A family in rural Alaska facing frightening challenges with their children reached out to HMG-Alaska wanting to find ways to get their child the support they needed in a residential treatment setting in Alaska. Prior to this the only options they received were for out of state facilities and the cost and impact of sending their child out of state was overwhelming. A Family Support Specialist was able to identify possibilities for placement in Alaska and connected the family with programs available to support families through this difficult time.
